This is why it was nicknamed “Helen of the West”.

Here are some interesting places to visit during your time on our beautiful island.

Canaries: The Village of beauty

St. Lucia offers an entirely different world of grandeur, from its luxurious resorts and undulating seas to its infamous twin peaks and majestic views. While most of the island has been moulded by modern hands, St. Lucia still harbours a charming fishing village untouched by time.

Canaries (also called Kanawe in creole) is a quaint little village tucked away along the West Coast Road, between the towns of Anse La Raye and Soufriere (26km away). In contrast to the more developed and bustling life of the surrounding towns, there is a slower pace and more peaceful air. The place offers great aesthetic pleasure, as it encapsulates the country’s culture perfectly.

The Pitons: St. Lucia's twin towering peaks

The Pitons are St. Lucia's twin towering peaks accompanied by prime topographic features. It was formed by volcanic activity about 200,000 to 300,000 years ago. Although climbing the twin peaks is an almost impossible task, divers have found a way to explore them as underwater cliffs.

The two peaks soar out of the sea to great heights, with the large Piton (The Gros) measuring about 798 meters high and the Petit Piton (small Piton) measuring 750 meters high.

Catching a glimpse of the Piton's beauty is tricky since moving closer will make it less beautiful. This is why most visitors enjoy the scenic view of the Pitons from Soufriere.

The Tet Paul Nature Trail

Enough of the sun, sand, and sea already. Let's take you on a ride to The Tet Paul Nature Trail, where you can experience a dramatic combination of topography and hiking in St. Lucia. It is located near the Soufrière and offers some excellent views of Southern St. Lucia.

This is a place for visitors who love to hike. It offers one of the best hiking experiences where visitors can see all the way to Martinique and St. Vincent. The Tet Paul Nature Trail also allows hikers to engage in certain activities like sampling tropical fruits, learning one or two things about medicinal plants, and discover the traditional Amerindian art of cassava production. Isn’t this amazing?

The highlight of your trip to the Tet Paul Nature Trail is the stairway to heaven. These steps lead up to a 360-degree view of the surrounding countryside. Trust me; this is not something you will want to miss. You may need to hold some cash for the entrance fee.

Marigot Bay

Marigot Bay is identified by its lush hillsides that plunge into a wonderful palm-fringed beach. On a good day, visitors can experience a scenic view of a yacht sailing on the blue waters.

It is known as the most beautiful bay in St. Lucia. Visitors who could experience its beauty can testify to how relaxing it can be to see the beach. This location is best viewed from a vista point on the road between the main Caribbean coastal route and the bay itself.

History has it that the British fleet had to hide on this bay from the French by covering their masts with palm fronds. This means you are not only enjoying a good view but visiting a historic site. This was also the setting for the 1967 film “Doctor Doolittle.” These two events had left an indelible mark on the various establishments on the bay. Hop on the next St. Lucia shuttle, and let's learn more about its history.
